I have well over 200 articles about films posted on Medium. In order to make it easier for you to find what interests you I have grouped them into categories with hot links.

There are several sources that would have you believe that Eegah is the worst movie ever made, but it’s not even close. It’s many orders of magnitude better than films like Bat Pussy or Things. Eegah isn’t even boring, it’s fun. It’s part teen beach romp, part drive-in horror movie, part science fiction, and part Elvis romance.

The director, Arch Hall Sr. made Eegah in hopes of launching his son’s music career. His son plays Tom the young heartthrob with a shiny pompadour. Tom is in love with Roxy and tries to woo her with Elvis-inspired ballads. …

In the late 1960s and early 1970s, a whole group of films was released that brought two contrasting male characters together to examine their dynamics. Midnight Cowboy in 1969, Butch Cassidy and The Sundance Kid in 1969, Joe in 1970, Mean streets in 1973, Thunderbolt and Lightfoot in 1974, and Mikey and Nicky in 1976. All these films center around a dysfunctional friendship but they also feature men who live on the wrong side of the law.

Martin Scorsese’s Mean streets and Elaine May’s Mikey and Nicky are gritty, and raw depictions of criminals, as well as observant depictions of…

This is a collection of movie posters curated on a purely visual basis without concern for the quality or nature of the movies they advertise.

Latitude Zero has a plot and it has action but all that pales in comparison to the costumes, sets, and fetishy undertone of the film. Men dressed in gold lamé jumpsuits, chains, and thigh-high leather boots battle it out with women dressed in rubber miniskirts and see-through latex capes. It is truly a sight to see. The film is an Ishirô Honda production. He’s the fellow behind Godzilla but in Latitude Zero all the rubber that would have gone into making Kaiju costumes goes into sartorial splendor.

I was unable to find any individual credits for costume or set design…

The Colossus Of New York has higher ambitions than just your average science fiction B movie. It takes on a wide range of different issues and arguments and sets most of them up as polemics in urgent need of a solution. The central theme concerns a brain that has been separated from its body. This becomes an opportunity to address the divide or lack of divide between the mind and the body. In consciousness studies, this split is referred to as “the hard problem.” The hard problem can be construed a few different ways but it always revolves around the…

Jafar Panahi’s Taxi Tehran, also known as, Jafar Panahi’s Taxi, is a masterpiece. Not only is it an amazing piece of filmmaking but it was filmed at great risk to the filmmaker. Panahi has been banned by the Iranian government from making films for the next 20 years. Not only has this ban failed to stop Panahi from making films, but Taxi Tehran was made outdoors in broad daylight right in the heart of Tehran.

Panahi has made several films since his incarceration and ban and has had them smuggled out to the rest of the world so we can…

The story begins when pet shop owner, William Peters, receives a letter from Morocco which the scriptwriter seems to think is in India. The letter is from Maharaja Poon Ja a Hindu sultan who worships Allah. He lives with a bunch of topless women who wear modesty veils over their faces and cater to his every whim. Unfortunately, he weighs about 500 pounds, and as a result, is unable to move around freely. He heaves and rolls on the floor like a crippled and confused elephant seal unsure of how to get from point A to point B.

I was enticed into watching The Devil when I happened upon a review that said watching it was like “a kick in the face.” The assessment proved to be quite accurate, although I might relocate the target to the stomach. Early on in the film, there is a montage in a shaman’s lair that tests your will to continue. The Shaman is “curing” a man who has been cursed by a witch. The Shaman stabs him with a dagger and tears open his torso. She then rips and rifles through his guts and finds everything infested with worms and beetles…
